Various Help Tidbits
- To put in the page break and the "More..." link, simply split the article up. Place the preview in the upper box, and the rest of the article in the lower one.
- The Sort Date is the date it checks to sort the news, so it'll stay up on top until something after that date is posted. Its format is year-month-day hour-minute-second .. you can leave off the hour-minute-second, it's a 24 hour clock
- The Publish Date is the date it'll show up, it has the same format. You probably want the Sort Date to be on or after the Publish Date!
- Feed Icon ID is not a field that's used yet -- it will be updated at such a time it is.
Paginating News Stories
Stories may now have multiple pages. The editor will now have one tab titled page one. If you want all your story on one page, just plug away as usual and it will appear as it always has. If you want multiple pages, simply click the 'add a page' link below the input box and a new tab will appear. When your story is viewed it will have pagelinks at the top and bottom that allow moving back and forth between pages.
Blank pages are ignored.
Tagging News Stories
When tagging news stories specific to game companies, games and developers use the proper name and remove any spaces. Examples:
- Everquest II should be 'EverquestII'
- Sony Online Entertainment should be 'SonyOnlineEntertainment'
How to add a Digg link to your article
- Write Article
- Submit it to Digg
- Click the box titled "Show digg link" within the News Submission admin tool.
- Check that it works, and enjoy!
How to add Images to your article
The bottom of the news-admin page now has an image upload and gallery. To use images in a news post, you should first upload images there, then create your story.
- Upload the image
- If you want an auto gallery, from a common tag, add a tag to each of the images.
- Link the image to the Image viewer, not the raw image file. i.e: /Im/Image/ID
- if you are including a preview of the image, use the server side image scaler as the src. ie: /Im/Image/width=350/ID.jpg (and use jpg as an extension for a smaller image)
The preferred method for entering the images into the actual story is to use the "insert image" button and enter the image's ID number in the 'Image URL or ID' field. For your convenience, the image's ID number is displayed in the gallery when the image is selected. If you upload an image on the news-admin page, you're expected to use it by entering the ID, or delete it if you change your mind.
Don't pollute the gallery with images you don't end up using, and don't try using a direct link to the image instead of its ID. The ID will be converted to a format that can be recognized to ensure that the image isn't lost.
Warning: Adding an image via the gallery will wipe any unsaved changes on the news-admin form, so if you forget to upload an image till after you've written out your story, you may want to first save it, then go back to re-edit and add the image.
How to Make an Image Gallery You Can Link
First, upload the pictures somewhere besides the news page, as pictures that are not linked directly in news will stay at the bottom of the new submission page until Rale cleans them off. The media tab of your Game Page is a great spot. After you upload each picture, view it with the image viewer (/Im/image/ImageNumer) and give it a unique tag. Each picture in your gallery needs to have the same tag.
The link you will use to get to the gallery is /Im/tag/Tagname. So if your gallery is tagged FRFairyPics, the URL will be /Im/tag/FRFairyPics.
Adding Video
All video must be "below the jump" - video loading on the news pages slows them down too much.
If you've used the Allakhazam video uploader, put the word "embed" (without the quotes) in your piece where you'd like the video to appear. Then link the video's page to the word embed.
Example: <a href="http://www.zam.com/video.html?video=319">embed</a>
You can also embed YouTube video by copying the embed code to the HTML page for your news piece.
